Frequently asked questions
The things people ask before booking work. If yours isn't here, call 07572 789351 — you'll get a straight answer rather than a brochure.
Working with Acorn
Acorn is owner-run. Phill carries out or directly oversees the work, so the person quoting is the person doing the job.
No — Acorn specialises in domestic and residential property. That focus is deliberate and it's what we're set up to do well.
We're based in Hassingham and cover Norwich, Broadland and south Norfolk. If you're slightly outside that, call and ask.
Yes, and that's usually the reason people call us. One team handles the wiring, the fitting and the finishing — no waiting on a second trade.
Quotes, costs and payment
No. Estimates are free, and there's no obligation attached to one.
For projects over £500 we take a 50% deposit once you've accepted the quotation, with the balance due on completion. Smaller jobs are settled on completion.
The quoted scope is the quoted price. If something genuinely unforeseen appears behind a wall, we stop, explain it and agree the cost before continuing.
Yes — all work is guaranteed, and electrical work is tested and certified to current regulations.
Electrical work
Phill is Part P and 18th Edition qualified, and the business is fully licensed and insured.
Yes. Electrical work is tested on completion and you receive the appropriate certification for the work carried out.
A circuit that trips repeatedly is telling you something. Stop resetting it and call us; persistent tripping is usually a fault that needs finding rather than an inconvenience to work around.
General guidance is at least every ten years for an owner-occupied home and every five years for rented property, plus whenever you buy or plan major work.
Kitchens, bathrooms and carpentry
Either. Plenty of customers buy their own kitchen or bathroom and have us fit it; we can also build bespoke cabinetry where off-the-shelf won't fit.
It depends entirely on the scope and the property. We give a realistic sequence and timescale with the quotation rather than an optimistic number to win the job.
Real building work makes dust, but it's managed. Floors and surrounding rooms are protected and the site is tidied at the end of each day.
Almost always. We'll agree in advance what will and won't be usable at each stage so you can plan around it.
